Health of hydraulic structures in Nepal being assessed after quake

In the wake of the strong 7.9 magnitude earthquake in Nepal, action has been initiated to assess the health of hydraulic structures of the mountainous country on the rivers flowing into India, the Government said on Thursday.

New Delhi: In the wake of the strong 7.9 magnitude earthquake in Nepal, action has been initiated to assess the health of hydraulic structures of the mountainous country on the rivers flowing into India, the Government said on Thursday.

Minister of State for Water Resources Sanwar Lal Jat told the Lok Sabha that no specific study has been conducted on landslides caused by the earthquake in Nepal increasing the threat of floods in India.

"However, actions have been initiated after the devastating earthquake for assessment of health of the hydraulic structures in Nepal on the common rivers flowing into India with regard to vulnerability of floods in India," he added.
