Lalit Modi row: Vasundhara Raje cancels visit to Punjab, will not meet Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh

Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, in the dock for helping controversial former IPL chief Lalit Modi, has cancelled her visit to Anandpur Sahib in Punjab where she was expected to meet BJP president Amit Shah and Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday.

As per TV channels, Raje is unwell and has decided not to go to Punjab where she was due to attend a function.

Reports had yesterday said that amid mounting Opposition pressure for her removal, Raje would meet Shah and Singh to explain her side.

It would have been the first meeting between Raje and top BJP leadership after her name figured in the snowballing controversy over Lalit Modi.

Speculation had raged yesterday whether the BJP leadership would discuss with her the issue of her continuance in the wake of damaging disclosures that she had purportedly signed a secret witness document favouring Lalit Modi's immigration plea in a London court.

Significance is also being attached as none of the BJP central leaders or from the government have come to her defence since the issue came out in public.

Raje had spoken to Shah over phone on Wednesday to explain her position in the row involving former IPL boss Lalit Modi who claimed she had supported his immigration plea in Britain.

Congress has been demanding her immediate resignation along with that of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, saying they have no right to continue in office after helping the former IPC chairman who is facing money laundering and other charges.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan state BJP will hold a press conference at 4 pm today in Jaipur on the Lalit Modi-Dushyant Singh controversy.

Raje's son Dushyant has been accused of receiving crores worth of money from the ex-IPL chief in a dubious share sale.
