Nepal Maoists burn down Indian school bus along Indo-Nepal border, no casualty

An Indian school bus carrying Nepalese children was allegedly set ablaze by a section of protesting Maoists along the Indo-Nepal border, police said.

Bahraich: An Indian school bus carrying Nepalese children was allegedly set ablaze by a section of protesting Maoists along the Indo-Nepal border, police said.

However, no casualties were reported, they said.

The school bus belonging to Seemant Inter College in Rupaidiha town here had gone to drop Nepalese students in Nepalganj town across the border on Friday.

The Maoists, who had called for a bandh set the bus on fire at Nepalganj after asking all the children to get down. No one was reported injured, police said.

The incident evoked a strong reaction on the Indian side with students and teachers protesting along with locals at the Nepal Gate, raising slogans and resorting to traffic jam.

Senior Nepalese officials held a coordination meeting last night with Bahraich district officials informing them about the arrest of two people in connection with this case.

It was only after the protesters were assured of stern action that normalcy was restored, police added.
