Rahul Gandhi attacks PM Modi in Parliament, asks him to meet farmers

It is your government, it is our government. But it is not the government of farmers, says Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha.

• Rahul this morning hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' initiative, saying farmers were the biggest contributor to the campaign but were feeling helpless. "The Prime Minister talks about 'Make in India'. Who contributes more than the farmers from Punjab in 'Make in India'? The poor contributes to 'Make in India', isn't that 'Make in India'? The Central government should help out the farmers," Rahul said. "Farmers are the back bone of India. Wherever there is injustice towards the farmers, I will go there, listen to their problems and understand their pain," he added.

• Rahul has already spoken once on the Land Bill and farmers' issue in Lok Sabha after returning from a nearly two-month-long sabbatical.

• Rahul had yesterday travelled to Punjab by train and visited mandis to understand farmers' issues. He is also travelling to Maharashtra later today on a two-day trip to meet farmers.

• As per reports, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi will likely speak on the matter in the Lok Sabha today.
• Issues facing the Indian farmers are likely to take centrestage once again on Wednesday as the Congress party has given a notice for suspension of the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha to discuss the same.
