Subramanian Swamy suggests PM Narendra Modi be given free hand on Pakistan

New Delhi: Reacting to Modi-Sharif's surprise meet in Lahore yesterday, senior BJP leader and noted scholar Subramanian Swamy on Saturday suggested that the PM should be given free hand on Pakistan.

Taking to Twitter, Swamy wrote, “ Namo be given a free hand on Pakistan since he is working to a strategy. As PM he must be allowed risky decisions since buck stops with him.”

Opposition on Friday had attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his “unscheduled” visit to Pakistan and alleged it was not for promoting India’s national interest or to take forward the roadmap to engage with it on tackling terror but to promote private business interests.

Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma also attacked the Prime Minister’s engagement with Pakistan as “frivolous, unpredictable and full of abrupt U-turns” and asked what assurances he got on bringing back or punishing perpetrators of 26/11 Mumbai attacks, especially Zakiu Rehman Lakhvi, and on dismantling terror syndicates in Pakistan acting against India.”

PM Modi on Christmas day surprised the world with a 150-minute visit to Pakistan where he met his counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Lahore and held talks during which they decided to 'open ways' for peace between the two countries. This was Pakistan PM's 66th birthday and his family was in the city to prepare for the marriage of a grandchild.
