Ranchi: In a suspected attack by Maoists, ultras blew up a section of rail track in Jharkhand on Tuesday evening, leading to derailment of an express train.

Maoists blew up a stretch of the railway track between Chhipadohar and Barwadih stations in Latehar district of the tribal state at around 8:40 am leading to the derailment of train no 13347 Barkakana-Patna Palamu Express. Chhipadohar is less than 10 kms before Bharwadih junction.

Three bogies and the engine of the train derailed due to the breach in the tracks. Railway PRO Anil Saxena said, “As per preliminary info, Loco pilot heard a blast sound, cause of accident and other details are still awaited.”

Maoists hand is suspected in the incident as it comes on a day when they are observing a 24-hour Maoist bandh in Jharkhand, Bihar and Chhattisgarh.

Reports from the ground have not confirmed any injuries or causalities.

Divisional Commercial Manager (Dhanbad Division) Dayanand said around eight metre of track was damaged due to the bomb blast and a relief train has left for the spot.
