Chinar Corps celebrates Raising Day

The history of the Corps is inextricably linked with the post-1947 history of Jammu and Kashmir.

Srinagar: Army`s Srinagar-based strategic
Chinar Corps, responsible for guarding the Line of Control in
Kashmir Valley, on Thursday celebrated its Raising Day with Corps
Commander Lt Gen S A Hasnain paying floral tribute at the
Badamibagh Cantonment War Memorial here.

Raised on January 12, 1916 at Port Said in Egypt, the
Chinar Corps has seen active operations during World War-I and
II, 1965, 1971 and the Kargil conflict in 1999, winning
accolades and laurels for the country, a defence spokesman
said.

Interestingly, he said, the history of the Corps is
inextricably linked with the post-1947 history of Jammu and
Kashmir.

Besides steadfastly guarding the borders, the Chinar Corps
has been at the forefront in fight against the ongoing `Proxy
War` in the Valley, he said.
