Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra has urged the Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to urgently expedite the extension of the airstrip of the Kargil airport from 6,000 feet to 7,500 feet.
Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra has urged the Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to urgently expedite the extension of the airstrip of the Kargil airport from 6,000 feet to 7,500 feet.
"Operation of commercial flights is not possible unless the runway is extended from 6,000 feet to 7,500 feet," an official Raj Bhawan spokesman said.
"In this regard, the Governor has addressed the Union Defence Minister seeking his urgent intervention to expedite the extension of the Kargil airport," he said.
He said that keeping in view the long pending demand of the people of Kargil for the operation of civil flights, particularly during winters, the Governor has urged the Defence Minister to issue directions to the Air Force to complete the runway extension work on a time bound basis.
