Only willing to form coalition for betterment of Jammu and Kashmir: Mufti

Jammu: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mufti Mohammed Syed on Saturday said that Jammu and Kashmir`s betterment would be his only concern while indulging in negotiations for government formation in the state, adding that he will not trade the mandate given to his party by the people of the state.

"If I feel that by joining hands and marching shoulder to shoulder, Jammu and Kashmir will improve then I will do it. Our talks are going on in track two, if we succeed , if we arrive at an agreement, on common minimum program, then we will have structured dialogue. I want to bring Jammu and Kashmir out of this quicksand," Syed said at a public function.

"Mufti is not a seller, I will not sell this mandate, I will not trade it. I will join hands for the betterment of Jammu and Kashmir," he added.

The PDP had recently rejected the National Conference`s offer of support, and said that it is still involved in talks with the BJP on the issue of government formation.

Governor`s rule had been imposed in Jammu and Kashmir after the assembly elections in the state threw a fractured verdict, with no party able to win the required number of seats to form the government.

The highest number of seats was won by the PDP, but with 28 seats it fell well short of the 44 seats required to form the government.
