Tulip garden to be extended

The area of one of the largest Tulip gardens of Asia, on the foothills of Zabarwan range overlooking Dal Lake here will be extended for further beautification.

beautification.

A major attraction to tourists, tulips would be produced
on additional five acres, an official spokesman said.

Minister for Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal
Sharma, along with Director Floriculture, G S Naqash, today
visited the garden sprawling over 35 hectares, to take stock
of the pace of work.

Locally known as Sirajbagh, the garden named after former
Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was inaugurated by UPA
Chairperson Sonia Gandhi in March 2008 and has more than 60
varieties of early, mid, late and very late blooming tulips.

During his inspection of the garden, the Minister was
apprised that 16 lakh tulip bulbs would be produced during
this season against 12 lakh tulips produced during last year.

Sharma also inspected 10 green houses established in the
garden.
