Ranchi: At least 11 passengers were killed and 18 injured when a bus carrying them overturned after hitting a tree in Jharkhand`s Pakur district Monday morning, police said.
The accident occurred when the bus, carrying around 45 to 50 passengers, was on its way to Dumka district from Pakur. It hit a tree near Koriyodih village, around 500 km from Ranchi, and then turned turtle.
"At least 11 people were killed and 18 injured. The injured have been admitted to a local hospital where the condition of seven of them is said to be serious," a police official told a news agency over telephone.
The accident triggered protests by angry relatives, who have blocked the Hirnapur and Littipara road, demanding Rs.500,000 in compensation.
