BJP wins Assembly election through professional campaign: Hemant Soren

Caretaker Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday claimed that BJP did not have any issue in the the Jharkhand Assembly elections, but won it through professional campaign, while JMM bettered its tally for its good performance in the past 14 months rule.

Ranchi: Caretaker Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday claimed that BJP did not have any issue in the the Jharkhand Assembly elections, but won it through professional campaign, while JMM bettered its tally for its good performance in the past 14 months rule.

"They didn?t have any issue, but through a professional campaigning they won. There was a multi-layer campaigning for the BJP. All their wings worked---not only from the state but also from the entire country," Soren told PTI.

"JMM on the other hand increased its number of seats from 18 to 19 and doubled its percentage of vote share. But the results fell below our expectations," he said.

"Howevr, it shows that the people of Jharkhand have also accepted our short stint of rule that focused on development," he said.

Soren agreed that the party would have benefited this time had its alliance with the Congress continued in pre-poll seat adjustments.

"Our target was to get a full majority and had tried to carry forward the alliance into polls. More or less, I can say, the alliance partners had agreed to and talks on seat sharing had been smooth. I do not know or understand on what ground Congress broke the alliance," Soren said.

Soren had ruled the state for over 14 months before Congress broke up the alliance just before the Assembly elections.

Congress won six compared to its previous tally of 14 seats while its partners, RJD and JDU, drew blank in the just concluded polls.
