Jharkhand polls: Another JVM(P) candidate arrested on pending charges

A Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) candidate from Baharagora Assembly constituency under Ghatsila sub-division was arrested in connection with two pending cases soon after he filed his nomination papers on Friday.

Jamshedpur: A Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) candidate from Baharagora Assembly constituency under Ghatsila sub-division was arrested in connection with two pending cases soon after he filed his nomination papers on Friday.

"We have arrested Sameer Mohanty, JVM(P) candidate from Baharagora constituency, in connection with two pending cases lodged under sections 323/341/504 IPC and 323/353/188 IPC after he filed his nomination papers," Officer in-charge of Chakulia police station Vikrama Ram said.

Ram said Mohanty had allegedly assaulted and deterred a public servant from discharging his duties during a protest in Chakulia in 2006.

An FIR had been lodged against him in this connection and Mohanty did not appear before the local court despite repeated summons.

Subsequently, the local court had issued a warrant against him, which led to his arrest today, he said, adding, Mohanty has been forwarded to Ghatsila jail.

The arrest was made a day after the president of JVM(P)'s East Singhbhum district committee and party candidate from Jamshedpur West Assembly constituency, Firoz Khan, was arrested after he filed his nomination papers for the Assembly polls here yesterday.

Jharkhand minister Banna Gupta (Congress), who is a sitting MLA from Jamshedpur West, filed his nomination papers today.
