Ranchi: Despite a squall bringing temporary respite for the citizens of Ranchi, Jharkhand's Garwah continued to sizzle under a heat wave, recording a maximum temperature of 47.32 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

According to a MeT Department official, Palamau and Deogarh districts registered 47 and 45 degrees Celsius respectively with Koderma experiencing 42 degrees.

Several other parts of Jharkhand remained above 40 degrees, he said.

Professor/Chairman (Department of Agriculture Physics and Meteorology) of the Birsa Agricultural University, A Wadood said, "A wind speed up to 150 km/hour hit Kanke, on the outskirts of Ranchi, for 10 minutes followed by heavy rains."

Some trees were uprooted in Kanke area, according to eye-witnesses.

Wadood said moderate rains were also experienced in the adjoining districts of Ramgarh, Hazaribagh and some parts of Chatra, bringing down the temperature below 40 degrees in these districts.

"But the heat wave continued in Santhal Parganas and other districts," he added.

MeT reports from Gumla, Latehar and Khunti districts said it was a cloudy afternoon.

There is no official confirmation on heat-related deaths this season.
