Manglaore: In yet another shocking incident of moral policing from the town of Mangalore in Karnataka, a Muslim was stripped and beaten at a crowded marketplace for talking to a girl belonging to another community.
The 28-year-old man said that he was speaking with his woman colleague in the street when the assault began.
He alleged that he was giving the Hindu girl some money on Monday evening when suspected Bajrang Dal activists held him. Police later arrested 14 suspected activists.
As per the complaint he filed, the girl had asked him for a loan of Rs 2,000. While they were going to ATM to withdraw money, a gang of men, armed with knives, approached them. The man was stripped, ties to a pole and flogged by the men.
The woman was also slapped when she tried to defend the man but escaped almost unhurt, reports the Hindustan Times.
This was not the first incident of moral policing in Mangalore. Many such cases involving right-wing activists had been reported from the coastal town in the past.
