This is not the first time that Poojary has gone ahead with controversial moves. Only last year, he appointed widows as archaks of the temple in Karnataka.

Gokarnanatheshwara Temple, also known as Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha Kshetra, is in the Kudroli area of Mangalore in Karnataka.

Deccan Chronicle quoted Poojary as saying, "Dalits too are children of God and have the right to offer pooja."

Dalits are barred from entering in many temples across the country.
