Sixteen children fell ill after eating contaminated porridge at a childcare (anganwadi) centre here on Friday.

Indore: Sixteen children fell ill after eating contaminated porridge at a childcare (anganwadi) centre here on Friday.

"Two children have been admitted to the district hospital while the rest have been sent home after primary treatment," the hospital doctor said.

He said that the children were rushed to the hospital after they ate contaminated porridge at the Chandan Nagar locality childcare centre.

The doctor said the condition of the two kids undergoing treatment is stable and added that victims are between two and five years old.

"When asked childcare centre staffers about what caused the trouble, they told us that they found a black wooden piece in the porridge," Women and Child Development Department's district programme officer C L Pasi said.

He said that a probe into the case has begun, adding, that people found to be lax in performing their duties will be punished accordingly.
