`Gen candidates recruited on reserved seats in MP`

General category candidates were being recruited to fill the backlog of vacancies reserved for dalits in Madhya Pradesh, the National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) said Sunday.

Bhopal: General category candidates were
being recruited to fill the backlog of vacancies reserved for
dalits in Madhya Pradesh, the National Commission for
Scheduled Castes (NCSC) said Sunday.

"The Madhya Pradesh government since 2006 was recruiting
general category people to fill the backlog of vacancies
reserved for SCs which is violation of Article 16 (4-B) of the
Constitution," NCSC chairman Buta Singh told reporters here.

"This negates the fundamental right," he said, adding "we
got to know about this two months ago and came to find out the
truth."

On NCSC visit to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan`s
native village Jait in Sehore yesterday over reports that
dalits were denied entry into temples there, he said "when we
visited a temple close to Chouhan`s younger brother`s house,
we found dalits worshipping along with others".

"They told us they perform pooja between 8.00 am and 9.00 pm
daily... but the moment we left the venue they too left, Singh
said, adding the NCSC team has come to know that dalits were
asked to remain in the temple as long as we were around.

"The show of the worshipping was stage managed," he said.
