Mumbai: Politician and businessman Farhan Azmi, son of Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Asim Azmi, has received an extortion call allegedly from a suspected member of Ravi
Pujari gang, police said on Monday.
Farhan, who is also husband of actor Ayesha Takia, lodged a complaint with crime branch which is probing the matter, they said.
"According to Farhan, the caller introduced himself as member of Ravi Pujari gang, demanded some crores of rupees as `protection money` from him over the phone recently," a crime branch official said on condition of anonymity.
Earlier this year also Farhan had complained to crime branch stating that he had received threatening call from a man claiming to be associated with underworld.
In January, Farhan contested the by-election for Bhiwandi East Assembly seat and lost to Shiv Sena candidate Rupesh Mhatre, despite the then SP top brass coming out in
full force to support his candidature.
