Cummins’ manager backs him to play in all three formats

Patrick Cummins’ manager has said the pacer should be allowed to play in all three international formats for Australia.

Sydney: Australian pace sensation Patrick Cummins’ manager has said the pacer should be allowed to play in all three international formats for Australia.
Neil Maxwell, who also manages Michael Hussey, Brett Lee and Marcus North, supports the intent of Australia`s new selectors to manage the 18-year-old’s workload and endorses a rotation policy.
However, he is against Cummins having to give up playing Twenty20 or one-day cricket for his country. Maxwell said it is too early in the young speedster’s career to shut him out from one format or another. “He`s played one Test match, one Twenty20 and a couple of ODIs. I think it’s way too premature to even start thinking about that.” A leading daily quoted Maxwell, as saying. “He’s got to find a niche and he`s not going to know what that niche is until he’s experienced all forms of the game . . . Just like a young kid starting out, you want them to bowl, bat and keep wickets. You don’t want to limit them to anything until you better understand what their strengths are.” he said. Due to a bruised heel, Cummins won`t play a part in Australia`s first Test against New Zealand, starting in Brisbane on Thursday, but Maxwell is adamant he should be considered available for all forms of the game for Australia this summer.
