A grocery shop owner allegedly strangled his wife following an argument over a minor issue at their residence in Vartak Nagar here, police said Wednesday.

Thane: A grocery shop owner allegedly strangled his wife following an argument over a minor issue at their residence in Vartak Nagar here, police said Wednesday.

The incident took place in the wee hours of Tuesday and police booked Sadafal Yadav (35), today for killing his 28-year-old wife Usha.

According to Police Sub-Inspector V R Patole of Vartak Nagar station, the police had first registered a case of accidental death and sent the body for post-mortem.

However, the local residents alleged that the victim`s husband Sadafal had strangled her and ran away. The victim`s two minor children also told them their father had beaten their mother mercilessly, following which she died.

But, police waited for the post-mortem report, which described her death as resulting from strangulation.

According to police, the couple used to quarrel over petty issues and the accused used to beat his wife.

The man has been booked under various sections of the IPC, including murder, and a hunt has been launched to nab him, police said.
