Mumbai: Chargesheet filed against Kripashankar Singh in assets case

The Mumbai police on Saturday submitted a charge sheet against former Maharashtra minister Kripashankar Singh and some of his relatives in a disproportionate assets case under IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act.

Mumbai: The Mumbai police on Saturday submitted a charge sheet against former Maharashtra minister Kripashankar Singh and some of his relatives in a disproportionate assets case under IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act.

"We have submitted the charge sheet with the registry of sessions court....It will go to the concerned court after the charge sheet is registered," said a police officer.

A case was filed against Singh and others after the Bombay High Court directed Mumbai police to investigate allegations of criminal misconduct and disproportionate assets.

Sanjay Tiwari, an activist, had filed a public interest litigation alleging that Singh and his relatives had assets of Rs 320 crore, which were disproportionate to known sources of their income.

Tiwari claimed that Singh, a former Mumbai Congress chief, had been close to former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda, who had been in jail in a hawala scam case, and several monetary transactions had taken place between them.

Singh's son Narendra Mohan is married to Ankita, daughter of Kamlesh Singh, a minister in the Koda cabinet. Ankita had received Rs 1.75 crore in her account from Kamlesh, the PIL said, adding there were huge transactions from the accounts of Kripashankar's wife Malti Devi too.
