Sheena Bora murder case: CBI to seek extension of Peter Mukerjea's custody

CBI is likely to seek extension of police custody of media baron Peter Mukherjea in Sheena murder case.

New Delh: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is likely to seek extension of police custody of media baron Peter Mukherjea in the Sheena Bora murder case.

Sources in the agency said Peter's remand is necessary because he has been "evasive" and "not cooperating" with the agency.

"He has been not cooperating in the probe and it appears that he was part of larger conspiracy. We will seek extension of Peter's custody," said a CBI official on condition of anonymity.

Peter, whose police custody will end on November 26, was brought to Delhi on Tuesday and is being questioned by the agency on financial deals that are viewed to be a possible motive behind the murder.

The agency has been scrutinising bank accounts held jointly by Peter and his wife Indrani Mukherjea, arrested for killing her own daughter Sheena.

The source of money in several accounts, including ones in HDFC, Barclays and Kotak Mahindra, is also being probed.

The agency has identified bank accounts of Indrani and Peter and found that Indrani has over a dozen fixed deposits.

Interestingly, in one account, Indrani reportedly had made a fixed deposit of Rs 80 lakh and she opened it after the murder of Sheena.

The agency has earlier revealed that the motive behind the murder was monetary gains.

Peter's son Rahul is also in the national capital and has been called twice to join the investigation.

According to CBI, Rahul and Sheena were in a relationship, which both Peter and Indrani disapproved of.

The CBI had arrested Indrani and her second husband Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyamvar Rai for the murder of Sheena.

Indrani, Khanna, and Rai reportedly killed Sheena and disposed off her body. Sheena was allegedly strangled in a car on April 24, 2012, and her body was burnt and dumped in a forest in Raigad, about 84 km from Mumbai, the next day.
