Thane: The Thane Municipal Corporation on Tuesday began demolition of constructions near Thane station area for its ensuing road widening project.
With this, residents of Thane will soon enjoy the benefits of wider roads.
Yesterday, the TMC razed 455 shops and verandahs of shops near Thane station.
"This is to facilitate the widening of 50 feet road from the current 30 feet in the area," DNA quoted Ashok Burpulle, deputy municipal commissioner, TMC, as saying.
The drive will continue for two to three days.
"As soon as the demolition work is over, the road widening work will start," said Burpulle.
The TMC has decided to widen the road so that traffic congestion is reduced.
