Accept Tibet as part of China: Dalai Lama

Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has said he has told his people not to think in terms of history and accept Tibet as a part of China.

Itanagar, Jan 23: Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama has said he has told his people not to think in terms of history and accept Tibet as a part of China.

"What we demand from the Chinese authority is more autonomy for Tibetans to protect their culture," he told a private TV channel in an interview last night.

He has decided to devote the rest of his life for promotion of human values and protection of human rights and freedom which had no boundary, he said, recalling his journey from Lhasa to Arunachal Pradesh via Tawang on mule back in 1959.

"We accept India as a land of Buddha," he said, adding he had no regret for not getting an opportunity to return to Tibet.

The septugenerian Buddhist leader denied charges that he was more of a political person than a spiritual leader, and said "If we go back to history to solve the Sino-India border problem, a lot of complications will arise. The question whether Tibet was part of China or not will have to be then addressed."

He said the then Tibetan government and British India had accepted the Mcmohan line and signed an agreement in 1914 under which present Arunachal Pradesh became part of India.

He said the Chinese delegation which participated in the meeting in Simla, however, did not sign the agreement.
