New Delhi, May 23: Agriculture Minister Ajit Singh resigned from the Union Cabinet tonight citing inadequate attention to the problems of farmers by the Vajpayee government raising questions over the fate of the BSP-BJP coalition in Uttar Pradesh depending on the support of 14 of his MLAs.
As the ties with BJP soured, Ajit Singh, who heads Rashtriya Lok Dal, has convened a meeting of 14 party MLAs here tomorrow morning to consider whether to continue support to the Mayawati government which has a wafer-thin majority in UP assembly.
Ranvir Rana, MLA and spokesman of the party, said the issue of party`s strategy with regard to UP government will be discussed tomorrow at the meeting.
A final decision will be taken by Ajit Singh, he said.
The 14 MLAs include a minister in the Mayawati government.
While resigning from the government, Singh also complained that his party`s demand for creation of Harit Pradesh out of UP was not being fulfilled.
UP Chief Minister Mayawati, who is here, is scheduled to leave on a five-nation tour tomorrow.
