New Delhi: A day after the Special
Investigation Team probing Gujarat riot cases raised doubts
about genuineness of Ishrat encounter case, Congress Saturday
said BJP government in Gujarat is "famous worldwide for fake
encounters."
"We are not surprised at it. We have earlier also seen
similar cases. Narendra Modi government in Gujarat is famous
worldwide for fake encounters. About half a dozen IPS officers
in the BJP ruled state are already behind bars in fake
encounter cases," party spokesperson Shakeel Ahmed told
reporters here.
His remarks came a day after senior IPS officer and a
member of Special Investigation Team, Satish Verma yesterday
raised doubts over the circumstances of the killings in Ishrat
Jahan encounter case before the Gujarat High Court and sought
a fresh FIR.
During the hearing, Verma had told the division bench
of Justices Jayant Patel and Abhilasha Kumari that "there are
two possibilities in the case; one is that four people (who
got) killed in the encounter had come to kill Gujarat Chief
Minister (Narendra Modi), and the other is that they were
killed in cold blood by the police".
"There is a possibility of the second one (having
taken place) irrespective of the first one," he had told the
High Court.
