Drunken-driving case: Delhi youth runs Mercedes over 2

In an incident eerily similar to high-profile Sanjeev Nanda and Utsav Bhasin hit-and-run cases, Delhi woke up on Saturday with the news of another affluent youth mowing won people under the influence of alcohol.

New Delhi: In an incident eerily similar to high-profile Sanjeev Nanda and Utsav Bhasin hit-and-run cases, Delhi woke up on Saturday with the news of another affluent young man mowing won people under the influence of alcohol.

As per initial reports, US returned 24-Year-old engineer Simran Sodhi, rammed his Mercedes car, at around 2 am (early today), onto a bunch of labourers sleeping on a pavement in the Sarojini Nagar area of South Delhi.

Sodhi was returning home with a female friend from Hotel Ashoka`s F-Bar when the incident took place.

Two people where critically injured when they came under Sodhi’s black Mercedes (DL3 CAY 8401) – they have been admitted to AIIMS for treatment, where doctors attending them said that they where in a stable condition. Three others escaped with minor injuries.

Simran Sodhi was arrested and charged under sections 279 (rash and negligent driving) and 337 (causing hurt), Deputy Commissioner of Police H G S Dhaliwal said.

“He was under the influence of alcohol. He lost control of the vehicle which came on the footpath. The car hit two labourers who sleeping on the pavement,” Dhaliwal explained.
