Gurbachan Jagat takes over as UPSC Chairman

Former Border Security Force Director General Gurbachan Jagat today assumed charge as the Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

New Delhi, Apr 01: Former Border Security Force
Director General Gurbachan Jagat today assumed charge as the
Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

Jagat, who had joined the UPSC as member in August 2002,
was administered the oath of office by outgoing Chairman S R
Hashim, who demitted office today.

Prior to joining UPSC, Jagat, an IPS officer of the 1966
batch, had served as Director General, Border Security Force
(BSF) and DGP, Jammu and Kashmir in a career spanning over 36
years.

He was conferred with the Indian Police Medal in 1982,
Padma Shri in 1987, the President's Police Medal in 1992 and
the Police Officer of the Year Award- Jammu and Kashmir in
2001.
