Is there any research on urine? Lalu wants to know

Is any research being carried out on use of human or cow urine as medicine?

New Delhi: Is any research being carried out
on use of human or cow urine as medicine?

RJD chief Lalu Prasad raised this query during Question
Hour in the Lok Sabha and sought to know whether there was any
move to file patents in this regard.

"I would like to know from the minister whether the
government has initiated any research on the practice of
consuming human urine or cow urine (as medicine) and whether
there is any effort to seek patents," he said.

There were a number of people who drink their own urine
as part of therapy, he said when the House was discussing
steps taken by the government to promote research and
development in the field of pharmaceuticals.

Minister of State for Chemical and Fertilisers Srikant
Jena said Prasad had raised a very pertinent question.

"There is a debate not only in India but throughout the
world as to whether any alternative medicine or alternative
action can be fruitful," he said.

This is being debated even in the US and there are many
takers of this view, Jena said adding the government would
look into the matter.
