Madurai, July 12: Hundreds of MDMK cadres in Tamil Nadu`s southern districts were arrested for blocking roads and picketing government offices to protest the arrest of party leader Vaiko. The MDMK has also called for a state-wide bandh today.

In Madurai city, 120 MDMK volunteers were arrested for
picketing in front of the Collectorate while 135 party workers
were arrested at Melur, Palani and Dindigul.
In Tirunelveli, 88 persons were arrested for picketing
the town Taluk office, while in the rural area 240 MDMK
volunteers were arrested for blocking the traffic at different
points. Cadres were also arrested at Sivaganga, Theni, Ramanathapuram and Tuticorin districts.
No untoward incident was reported, police said.
