Navy war room leak: CBI to probe Abhishek’s conduct during parole

A Delhi court has asked the CBI to probe into allegations that Abhishek Verma, a key accused in the Navy War Room Leak case, tampered with evidence during his five-hour custody parole.

New Delhi, Nov 06: A Delhi court has asked the CBI
to probe into allegations that Abhishek Verma, a key accused
in the Navy War Room Leak case, tampered with evidence during
his five-hour custody parole.

Taking cognizance of an anonymous letter and submissions
by the prosecution regarding the alleged tampering with
evidence by Verma, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate
(ACMM) Kamini Lau ordered the probe agency to initiate an
enquiry.

Verma, who is facing trial in connection with a Foreign
Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) violation case, was granted
custody parole on September 24 in the presence of the IO, to
visit his ailing mother.

"I hereby direct the IO of the CBI of the case... to
immediately conduct a probe with regard to possibility of
misuse of the custody parole so granted by this court to the
accused," said the court directing the agency to file the
enquiry report before it on December one.

However, Verma allegedly misused the parole and committed
forgeries and manipulations in the documents pertaining to the
war room leak case.

The court also took note of the fact that earlier Verma,
while moving his parole application before it, concealed the
the pendency of navy war room leak case in which he was an
accused.
