New Delhi: After their party`s crushing defeat in the Lok Sabh polls, prominent Congress leaders have begun to express their anger and frustration over the functioning of the top brass and the faulty decisions taken by them.
Former Union minister Milind Deora, who lost South Mumbai Lok Sabha seat, said on Thursday that there were some in the party who remained silent when things weren`t going well.
"Everyone needs to share the blame, especially those who felt they had value to add but kept quiet for the past two to three years when things weren`t going well. Those who were silent are to be blamed as much as those who were giving wrong advise," Deora told reporters.
Deora also said that Rahul Gandhi`s advisers who were taking the shots during the crucial elections should now face music for Congress` dismal performance.
Earlier, senior Congress leader Kamal Nath had faulted Manmohan Singh for being uncommunicative, saying lack of communication was at the root of the government`s problems.
Interestingly, the Congress Working Committee, which met last week to analyse the reasons for its defeat, had turned down party president Sonia Gandh and vice-president Rahul Gandhi`s decision to quit.
The CWC, which defended the top leadership, even authorised Sonia to reshuffle the party and prepare a roadmap for the party for 2019 polls.
Key allies have also slammed the Congress for not consulting them and saying both the PM and government failed to communicate with people.
Outgoing Union minister and NCP leader Praful Patel said recently that Manmohan Singh`s failure to assert himself and the complete breakdown of political dialogue with allies led to Congress`s staggering defeat in the just-concluded general elections.
Patel`s comment came after another UPA partner, Indian Union Muslim League, blamed Rahul Gandhi for the poll debacle. The IUML mouthpiece said Rahul`s "one-man show" failed to benefit his party as he failed to read the pulse of the people and counter the onslaught of the BJP led by Narendra Modi.
