Ahmedabad: Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Friday said he wants to change the current system of nomination to various posts in the party`s student wing NSUI and Youth Congress (YC).

"There is a system of nomination to various posts in NSUI and YC, but he wants to change it. The age of nomination will go and there will be elections," NSUI leader Vinay Tomar quoted Gandhi as saying at a meeting of college students here.

Tomar spoke to reporters after the meeting, where the media was not allowed.

The young MP, in-charge of NSUI and Youth Congress, addressed a packed hall of college students here. Gandhi is visiting Gujarat to give a boost to NSUI enrolment drive and its democratisation process, Tomar said.

NSUI has started an enrolment drive in Gujarat and elections to various posts of the organisation will be held soon, Tomar said, adding, Gandhi will also visit Rajkot and Vadodara and address youths there.

"Gandhi said in today`s India, in fields like business and politics, it has become a trend that only those who have a family background make it to the top. The Congress leader said he also comes from such a background, but he will try to change the system," Tomar said.

Gandhi said his efforts of democratising the youth organisations is aimed at bringing more common men into mainstream politics, Tomar added.
