SC-constituted panel to visit six mines in AP

Mining operations by Reddy brothers` Obulapuram Mining Corp in Andhra Pradesh has been stopped over alleged illegal mining in violation of the Forest Conservation Act.

New Delhi: A key committee constituted by
the Supreme Court to suggest ways for environment protection
will visit six controversial mines in Andhra Pradesh, mostly
owned by Karnataka mining magnet Reddy brothers, next week,
sources said on Wednesday.

"The Central Empowered Committee, chaired by Chairman P V
Jayakrishnan, today decided to visit six mines in Andhra
Pradesh next week. The committee will most likely visit the
mines on Tuesday (December 21)," said a source.

Mining operations by Reddy brothers` Obulapuram Mining
Corp in Andhra Pradesh has been stopped over alleged illegal
mining in violation of the Forest Conservation Act.

The company has been fighting charges of illegal mining
in forest lands on the Karnataka-AP border.
