Terror alert in Pune, security beefed up

Security was beefed up on Tuesday at vital installations in and around this Maharashtra city in view of intelligence information of a possible terrorist attack, officials said.

Pune, Jan 09: Security was beefed up on Tuesday at vital installations in and around this Maharashtra city in view of intelligence information of a possible terrorist attack, officials said.

The precautionary measure was taken following an alert received from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) that terrorists could be targeting some vital commercial establishment in the city, Additional Director General of Police (State CID) Jayant Umranikar said.

Security was also stepped up around the Indian Air Force (IAF) - controlled Lohegaon airport near Pune, believed to be a terrorist target, apart from the Hinjawadi IT Park.

The giant Hinjawadi IT park is off the Mumbai-Pune expressway on the outskirts of the city.
