New Delhi: In yet another scathing attack on the previous Congress-led UPA government, former union minister K Natwar Singh on Friday said that the party had no foreign policy.
“They (UPA) had no foreign policy, they did not even pay attention to neighbours,” Singh said during an interview to a news agency.
According to former external affairs Minister Natwar Singh who recently stoked a huge controversy by saying that Congress president Sonia Gandhi was stopped from becoming PM by Rahul Gandhi retreated today that he has written the same in his just-released book titled `One Life is Not Enough: An Autobiography`.
Reacting over Sonia Gandhi`s comment that she will come out with her own book, which will reveal the `truth`, Singh today said that he was looking forward to Sonia`s book and claimed that she should come out with her own book as she was a `historic figure`. "I will write my own book and then you will come to know everything...the only way truth will come out is if I write...I am serious about it and I will be writing," Sonia Gandhi had told reporters in Parliament House.
Further, dismissing questions about the timing of his book`s release, Singh today said, "I started writing the book in 2011. It takes two to three years to write a book. I never thought about the timing, whether it was before the elections or later. The book was published after it finished," as per ANI.
When asked about his claims that files were transferred from 7 Race Course Road to 10 Janpath during the UPA government`s term, Singh defended his statement by saying, "Do you think Pulok Chatterjee went to have lunch with her? Will the Prime Minister say that he sent files to her?"
Former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh, however, had categorically stated that no files were sent from the Prime Minister`s Office (PMO) to Sonia Gandhi`s 10 Janpath residence for clearance during his tenure.
"No files used to go from PMO to 10 Janpath," Dr Singh had said.
The former external affairs minister also said that he did not act out of bitterness in his life, and that if he had ever been bitter, he "would have lost respect in my own eyes".
Flaying the foreign policy of the Manmohan Singh government, Natwar Singh said, "They never paid attention to their neighbours. I told Modi to pay attention to the neighbours. Manmohan Singh never visited Nepal, Pakistan, Bhutan or Sri Lanka." Also, when quizzed about Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi`s reported meeting with him, Natwar Singh said, "You can read about the meeting in my book. She did not come to have dinner at my place."
Adding that he was an 83-year-old man who wanted to leave his legacy for his grandchildren, Singh said that there was more to his 400-page book than just the claims on Sonia Gandhi.

Natwar Singh`s sensational claims about Sonia Gandhi and the UPA government`s functioning have caused a storm amongst both Congress and opposition leaders.
Natwar Singh had claimed that Congress president Sonia Gandhi did not become prime minister in 2004 because her son Rahul Gandhi had been against it as he felt she would be killed like his father, former PM Rajiv Gandhi.
BJP leaders like Shahnawaz Hussain had described Singh`s book as an eye-opener, which had once again highlighted who was actually calling the shots during the UPA government`s ten-year-rule.
"Natwar Singh`s book is an eye opener for everyone; His book has exposed them. She had said that she had sacrificed the prime minister`s post. There is always a threat for the person who sits on the seat of Prime Minister. It was only out of fear that she did not accept the position," Hussain said.
Congress leaders, however, had unanimously rejected Natwar Singh`s claims.
Senior Congress leader Rashid Alvi had said, "He is saying all this after so many years, people will not believe it. Whatever has been written, will not harm Sonia Gandhi `s prestige in any way, it will only boomerang on him."
Youth Congress members had even staged a protest in Bangalore today against Natwar Singh, calling him "the fake king", and had also burnt his posters.
