Washington: In a bid to go beyond a music-streaming platform, Spotify has announced plans to take a "massive leap forward" by introducing podcasts and videos.

Unveiling a new version of Spotify that's more closely aligned with Songza, CEO Daniel Ek said the platform was aiming to go beyond conventional formats. The new version not only brings podcasts to what was previously just a music app, but also, a "video capsule" offering streaming video from partners like Comedy Central, Vice News, and The Nerdist, reports The Verge.

The expansion came at a time when the firm is facing more competition than ever before as it strives to maintain its top position in the subscription music business.

Spotify user experience head Rochelle King has revealed that the platform will now feature different playlists for different parts of your day.

The playlists will be dynamic and learn from what you like based on what you listen.
