New Delhi: Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Thursday clarified that the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act has been extended to 12 districts of Arunachal Pradesh for a limited time frame, denying reports that the law has been extended to the entire state.

"The extension of AFSPA is only to those areas of Arunachal where militants are operating and only for a limited period. As soon as the operation is over, the law will be lifted," Rijiju told the media.

According to reports, Home Ministry has notified 12 districts of Arunachal Pradesh, which border Assam, as 'disturbed areas', the first time in over a decade that such a move has been made.
