Kidnapped doctor rescued by police in Manipur

Manipur police rescued a kidnapped doctor in interior Bishenpur district after tracing his whereabouts.

Imphal: The Manipur police on Tuesday rescued a kidnapped doctor from a place in interior Bishenpur district after tracing his whereabouts.

Police sources said on Tuesday that police commandos swung into action after receiving report that W Nabachandra, who was the duty officer at a primary health centre at Leimapokpom, was kidnapped at gun point by suspected militants of the Kangleipak Communist Party on Monday.
The commandos traced the doctor to Mutum Yangbi in the district, the sources said adding that the militants who had kidnapped the officer at gun point fled after knowing that the commandos were following them.
In another incident, the body of an unidentified woman was recovered from the Yaifakon area in interior Churachandpur hill district, the sources said.
The body has been sent to district hospital for post-mortem and identification.
