Tripura assembly on Monday witnessed uproar over the issue of funds collected by chit fund companies.

Agartala: Tripura assembly on Monday witnessed uproar over the issue of funds collected by chit fund companies.

Trouble started during the Question Hour when the acting Home Minister Badal Chowdhury in reply to a question from opposition Congress member Ratan Lal said that the state government had asked the CBI to take up 37 cases relating to chit fund for investigation but CBI took up only five cases.

Opposition members stalled the proceedings demanding the government to inform the House about the amount of money collected by the chit funds companies.

When Chowdhury and Speaker Ramendra Lal Nath said that it was not possible to place the data at this point, the opposition members rushed to the well, started shouting and forced the Speaker to suspend the Question Hour.

Speaker then adjourned the House for 15 minutes which reassembled at 11.58 am and the Question Hour ended at 1200 hours.

The Leader of the Opposition Sudip Roy Burman alleged that the ruling CPI(M) was not interested for stringent investigation and punishing the chit fund companies because they were benefited by those companies.
