Maoist camp destroyed in Orissa

A camp of Maoists was destroyed during an exchange of fire between them and security personnel in Orissa`s Rayagada district on Friday, police said.

destroyed during an exchange of fire between them and security
personnel in Orissa`s Rayagada district on Friday, police said.

During a joint combing operation launched by CRPF and
elite SOG jawans at Paniganda forest areas of Munikhole
gram panchayat, the ultras fired at the security forces.

Security forces retaliated in which some rebels were
injured, Deputy Inspector General of Police (South-West),
Soumendra Priyadarshi said.

However, the exact number of the injured could not be
ascertained as the ultras quickly fled the scene, police said.
Security personnel also destroyed a camp of the ultras,
the DIG said.

Superintendent of Police, Raygada, Anup Krishna said a
rifle had been seized and the red rebels disappeared in the
dense forest after the encounter, Krishna said.

Priyadarshi said a massive combing operation was
launched by security forces in the entire region after the
exchange of fire.
