Minor girl moves court to terminate pregnancy

A fast track court here is likely to hear on Saturday a plea of a 16-year-old girl, seeking its permission to terminate her pregnancy.

Ambala: A fast track court here is likely to hear on Saturday a plea of a 16-year-old girl, seeking its permission to terminate her pregnancy.

In the application moved through her parents last week, the girl had requested Special Fast Track Court of Bimlesh Tanwar that she be permitted to abort the foetus.

The plea has been moved in the case in which accused Surjit Kumar and seven others are facing trial in the same court under various sections of IPC including rape (376) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act).

Meanwhile, Surjit has also filed a petition in local civil court seeking injunction to restrain her from abortion claiming that they were legally married.

The court today recorded her statement and would hear the arguments of the counsel of the accused tomorrow before passing an order.

The girl's counsel said the accused had taken the victim to Karnal on April 5 on the pretext of marriage, following which her parents had lodged a missing complaint with police.

The counsel further said the victim was rescued by police on July 18 after raiding several locations and was restored to her parents.

The accused were arrested and are in judicial custody since then.
