Chandigarh: Punjab Congress on Friday demanded resignation of Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal for what it said "resorting to white lie" by denying any knowledge about the ownership of the transport firm whose staff was involved in the molestation of a young girl and her death.
"She (Harsmirat) should have owned the moral responsibility for the tragedy which is a blot on the face of Punjab rather than feigning ignorance about the ownership of Orbit companies whose managing director happens to be her husband Sukhbir Singh Badal who is the Deputy Chief Minister.
"She has no right to be in Union cabinet after this grave incident and this misrepresentation of fact", state congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa said in a statement issued here.
He also gave a call to gherao Orbit buses in Mohali on May 4.
The gherao will be led by Bajwa and Congress Legislature Party leader Sunil Jakhar.
The PPCC chief said the deteriorating law and order in the state would be part of the 'Rail Roko' agitation tomorrow, whose main focus would be the demands of the farmers.
He also lambasted the Badal government for the tardy procurement saying the farmers were not getting the bills for their produce sold.
A Dalit woman and her teenage daughter were allegedly molested and thrown out of a running bus belonging to the ruling Badal family in Punjab, leaving the girl dead and mother seriously wounded and triggering up a political storm.
The shocking incident occurred on April 29 close to Gill village on Moga-Kotkapura road, about 10 km from Moga district headquarters, and four persons including the driver, cleaner and conductor of the bus have been arrested.
Meanwhile, Punjab Youth Congress has also condemned the shocking Moga incident.
They will gherao the office of Orbit Transport Company situated on Dabwali road Bathinda on May 3 and restrict the movement of the buses, said PYC chief Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary.
PYC also demanded cancellation of permits to the company.
