Floods create havoc in Rajasthan's Barmer

At least four persons have died in floods that have created havoc in Rajasthan's Barmer district.

Barmer: At least four persons have died in floods that have created havoc in Rajasthan's Barmer district.

The Narmada river has submerged several villages in the district, destroying standing crops and submerging several houses.

Personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been evacuating people in Bavla village.

"We were about to die. Our crops have been destroyed. We want the government to waive off our loan and help us. The government should help us in rebuilding our houses. Many houses have been damaged because of the flood water. I would like to thank the NDRF team for helping us," said a villager after being rescued.

NDRF officials said the rescue operation has been hampered due to incessant rains.

An NDRF official, who declined to disclose his name, said not many villagers were prepared to leave their houses.

"We have evacuated around 530 people. Other than that we have also evacuated some animals," he said.

Rajasthan has been experiencing heavy rains for the last few days.
