Dead bodies in Ganga: Centre seeks report from UP govt

New Delhi: Home Ministry has asked UP government to submit a report in the wake of over hundred dead bodies found afloat in Ganga river in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh.

Meanwhile, dissatisfied with the Centre response, the Supreme Court on Wednesday rebuked the government over cleaning up of Ganga river and asked “will you complete it in this term or the next?”

In response to this, the government has now told the apex court that cleaning of Ganga river will be completed by 2018.

The NGT had earlier on Tuesday passed a slew of directions including a fine of Rs 5,000 on individuals spotted throwing waste or religious items in the river as it unveiled a plan for its restoration.
