Eon Electric wins contract for LED streetlights

High-tech electrical products manufacturer Eon Electric has won contracts worth Rs.51 crore for installing light emitting diode (LED) street lights at Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh and in Jodhpur city of Rajasthan, the company has announced.

Noida: High-tech electrical products manufacturer Eon Electric has won contracts worth Rs.51 crore for installing light emitting diode (LED) street lights at Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh and in Jodhpur city of Rajasthan, the company has announced.

"EON Electric has won LED street lighting projects in the open bidding process of the government-sponsored Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) and for being associated with the Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan governments to transform the region's lighting and energy savings scenario," Eon Electric chairman V.P. Mahendru said in a statement here on Thursday.

"The company is installing 60,000 LED street lights at Jodhpur and 13,000 at Aligarh," the statement said.

The total value of the contracts is Rs.51 crore, it added.

Last month, Power Minister Piyush Goyal launched an LED-based mass lighting programme in Uttar Pradesh in Varanasi and said that with light emitting diodes, electricity demand in the city would come down by 45 MW and lead to savings worth Rs.68 crore.

The central and Uttar Pradesh governments, in association with the state-run EESL, will distribute about 1.3 million LED bulbs to more than 200,000 domestic consumers.

The initiative comes under the Domestic Efficient Lighting Programme -- DELP -- and would replace thousands of conventional street lights with the energy efficient LEDs in Varanasi.

EESL will replace the estimated 36,077 conventional street lights with energy efficient and smart LED lights across Varanasi at its own cost.
