The Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) is an initiative by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Also called Mangalyaan, the space probe has been orbiting Mars since September 24, 2014.

It was launched on November 5, 2013 and is India's first interplanetary mission, thereby making ISRO the fourth space agency to reach Mars, after the Soviet space program, NASA, and the European Space Agency.

Launched with an aim to explore and observe Mars surface features, morphology, mineralogy and the Martian atmosphere, the MOM will also seek information about the possibility or the past existence of life on the planet.

Once in orbit, Mangalyaan beamed back spectacular, never-seen-before images of the Red Planet, which ISRO shared with the world.

Check out the top 10 pics captured by Mangalyaan which have the world in awe!
