Balochistan anti-polio campaign suspended due to security reasons

The second phase of an anti-polio campaign has been suspended in Pakistan`s Balochistan province for security reasons.

Karachi: The second phase of an anti-polio campaign has been suspended in Pakistan`s Balochistan province for security reasons.

The Dawn quoted Balochistan Health Department (BHD) sources, as saying that the anti-polio campaign was started in Quetta on May 20 to manage the application of polio vaccines to over 400,000 children aged below five years.

Polio drops were given to children in 18 union councils in Balochistan before the process was suspended due to the authorities` failure to provide timely security to polio teams in the city.

The BHD had launched the second phase of its anti-polio campaign in different union councils of Quetta on Monday.

The Balochistan Polio Emergency Cell had declared 51 union councils of the province to be at "high risk" for polio.
