Bangladesh gets new Air Chief

Bangladesh`s caretaker government Friday named Air Commodore Shah Mohammad Ziaur Rahman the new chief of Air Force after sending the current chief to retirement.

Friday named Air Commodore Shah Mohammad Ziaur Rahman the new
chief of Air Force after sending the current chief to
retirement.

Rahman will replace Air Vice-Marshal Fakhrul Azam, who
been sent into retirement from April 7, the Defence Ministry
said in a statement, without elaborating.

Azam was appointed as the Air Chief during the rule of
the previous Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government.

Bangladesh has been ruled by a military-backed
interim government since January 12, when President Iajuddin
Ahmed imposed a state of emergency.
